Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Old Anatolian Turkish قُنكشٖی (qoñşi),[1] ultimately from Proto-Turkic *kon- (“neighbour; friend; guest”), whence also Azerbaijani qonaq (“guest”). Compare Turkish komşu, Uzbek qoʻshni, Turkmen goňşy, Kyrgyz кошуна (koşuna, “guest”), Kumyk хоншу (xonşu).
