Likely from Proto-Albanian *wel-estā, derived from vjel (to pluck, vintage) (from Proto-Albanian *wela), cognate to Lithuanian suvalýti (to harvest, reap) and Ancient Greek εἴλω (eílō, to shut in, press)[1]. Pokorny, on the other hand, has linked it with the Latin goddess Vesta (and her Greek equivalent Εστία), which he considers of Illyrian origin.[2]
