From Late Latin Hildemundi, genitive of the personal name Hildemundus, from a Suevic or Gothic personal name; from a compound *Hildimundaz, from Proto-Germanic *hildiz (“battle, fight”) and *mundaz (“protection”),[1][2] "Hildemund's [villa]".
