Hogwarts has four "houses": Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. These are named after the founders of Hogwarts: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin.[1] The name of a house may also mean someone from said house, such as "Harry Potter is a Gryffindor, while Draco Malfoy is a Slytherin."
Gryffindor
[edit]- Animal mascot: lion.
- Some members: Harry Potter and his main sidekicks, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Also Sirius Black, Neville Longbottom, Peter Pettigrew, and Ginny Weasley.
- Notes: Gryffindor is associated with bravery.
Hufflepuff
[edit]- Animal mascot: badger.
- Some members: Cedric Diggory.
Ravenclaw
[edit]- Animal mascot: eagle.
- Some members: Cho Chang, Luna Lovegood.
Slytherin
[edit]- Animal mascot: snake.
- Some members: Vincent Crabbe, Gregory Goyle, Draco Malfoy, Pansy Parkinson, Horace Slughorn, Lord Voldemort.
- Notes: Salazar Slytherin, the founder, was a parselmouth (could converse with snakes), so the snake is the symbol of said house. Salazar Slytherin is widely considered a Dark wizard, and Slytherin is the main house of Hogwarts with a reputation of producing Dark wizards. Lord Voldemort was also a parselmouth.
