Sindarin

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Modified from Arvelain in Tolkien’s earlier conception of the language (‘Noldorin’). Diegetically explained as either from aur (day) +‎ Belain (plural of Balan (Vala)), or else from aur (day) + a phonological translation of Quenya Valanya; Tolkien offered both derivations at different times.
