Sindarin

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Modified from aiw in Tolkien’s earlier conception of the language (early ‘Noldorin’), itself modified from yet earlier aigli in ‘Gnomish’. Diegetically explained as inherited from Primitive Elvish *aiwē, and so cognate to Quenya aiwë.

Noun

[edit]

aew • lEy (plural aew)

  1. (small) bird
