Sindarin

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Only attested in Tolkien’s earlier conception of the language (‘Noldorin’). Diegetically explained as am- (snake) +‎ lhûg (dragon), a formation parallel to Quenya angulócë (if cognate, the expected common ancestor would be Primitive Elvish *angwaslōkō, which is, however, not attested by Tolkien).

Noun

[edit]

amlug • t#jx& (plural emlyg)

  1. dragon
    Synonym: lhûg
