I created this appendix just to teach quickly how the notation works.

My intention was doing something different than the WP article. from which I've got some content and copyedited a lot. In my opinion, the encyclopedic tone of Wikipedia gets a little in the way, since I feel they exaggerate a bit on the number of examples, comments, and so on. I also avoided mentioning obsolete or too "advanced" concepts such as the sentence "S (from the German Springer) was also used for the knight in the early days of algebraic notation, and is still used in chess problems (where N stands for the nightrider, a popular fairy chess piece)." which was in the middle of explaining basic chess pieces such as "K = King".

Basically, I wanted to write an understandable list of the symbols of algebraic notation and their meanings as shortly as I could. --Daniel 20:26, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
