Alternative forms

  • Besch (Moselle Franconian)

Etymology

From Old High German busk. The -ö- is due to regular secondary umlaut before -sch- (compare wäsche, Frösch, etc.).

Wie weck lööf der Has en der Bösch? – Bes en de Medde, dernoh lööf e widder erus.
“How far into the forest will a hare run? – To the middle, after that it runs out again.” (A conundrum.)
