Language specification

Is this category the catch-all for all languages? Should it be, or should each language have its own category (eg Category:de:Alternative spellings or Category:Alternative spellings (German))? -- Beobach972 20:15, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

I think alternate language cats would be nice. The first step would be getting one of the wiki programmers to give us a LANGNAME variable so we can program the "alternative spelling of" template to sort that out automatically (otherwise someone would have to go through and manually set all the languages, which would not be a good use of peoples' time) Thanks for pointing this out, I sure hope the programmers make a LANGNAME variable soon :-) — This unsigned comment was added by LanguageLover (talk • contribs).

I have been very bold and added a language parameter, styled on {{plural of}}. I think the problems such a parameter caused there have been resolved by adding a default language. I have done the same here, although it means (as it does for Category:English plurals) that foreign entries will initially be tagged as English, until that is corrected individually (by robot or by hand). -- Beobach972 23:27, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
