The information on this page is doubtful (though I admit that I don't know very much but this unfortunately moribund dialect).
- 1.) I don't think there's any consensus that it stems from Iraqi Arabic. It may have some traits in common with it, but my understanding is that it is closest to Syrian Arabic.
- 2.) What about the script? I think there has been little writing to begin with. Under the Ottomans it seems possible that the Arabic script was used, but even that is not at all certain. The speakers are Maronite Christians and used Greek as contact language. Today at any rate I'm sure any writing that exists is either in Greek script or in Latin script.
