There has been much discussion about the minting of coins for use during SCA events. However the one problem most likely to scrap the entire project is getting the merchants to accept the coins when most of them prefer not to accept even mundane Susan B. Anthonys and half dollars.

Here's an idea for all, although I'm sure some of you must have thought of it long ago... Since paper money is not period, shouldn't we carry silver? (silver dollars, half dollars, the very light-weight Susan B. Anthonys)

The old 5p pieces were rather large, about the same size as a 10p piece. Thus they were often confused. Similar to the Susan B. Anthonies and quarters in the US.

Yeah, but coins just never caught on. They tried silver dollars, Susan B. Anthonys and Sacagaweas, and I'm probably forgetting earlier coins too.

I have a bag of this size and I have not been able to locate any sold prices to determine the value. I see a lot of $100 and $25 bags, but now that I think about it I don't believe I have ever seen a $1000 bag.(not that I've always been looking either) Has anyone seen one sell or and idea on value? I just got a really good offer on it and I don't know if there is something I don't know about it. Appreciate any insight!

Note that in the about.com article I linked, the two valuable varieties of Susan B Anthonys are proof varieties. That mint bag looks like it probably consists of mostly BU or circulated coins. You may just have a bag of 1000 dollars worth $1000.
