English citations of bona fides

  • 1900 December 26th, Viator (pseudonym?), “The Polish Danger” (Letter to the Editor) in The Times, № 36,342 (Thursday 3rd January 1901), page 5/6:

I had an introduction to the Prussian authorities from our Foreign Office and therefore appeared on the scene as a friend of the Berlin Government. However, once I had satisfied the Poles of my bona fides, I found them all confidence and frankness.
