Parkway without cars[edit]

  • 1925 May 9, “County Park Commission Said To Have Acquired 35 Acres of Hunt Estate”, in The Daily Argus, Mount Vernon, NY:
    The Westchester County Park commission is announcing today that all the land has been acquired for a new parkway which will connect the present Bronx Parkway with the recently projected cross-county parkway. The tract just obtained starts from the Bronx Parkway at Gramatan avenue and runs southeast through the old Hunt Estate to join the Cross Country Parkway near the sit [sic] of the present club house of the Mount Vernon Country club. It will be developed as a neighborhood park with only horseback trails and footpaths, and no automobile roads.
