DescriptionPosts on the saltmarsh, Warton Sands - geograph.org.uk - 1658558.jpg
English: Posts on the saltmarsh, Warton Sands The 2002 version of OL 7 shows a fence running over the saltmarsh around here. There was no sign of this today but these posts look like they may have had something to do with fishing nets being suspended from them?
I have heard that these posts may once have supported a dummy Spitfire. Also nearby lines of "fence posts" and tracks shown on older large-scale maps may have been part of a firing range, decoy airfield or traps to prevent German aircraft landing on the salt marsh during WW2.
