Etymology

(deprecated template usage) [etyl] Hindi गुप्ता (guptā) - possibly derived from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Sanskrit गोप्तृ (goptṛ, guardian), or possibly also from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Sanskrit गुप्त साम्राज्य (Gupta Sāmrājya, Gupta Empire), the name of an ancient Indian empire which existed from approximately 320 to 550 CE and covered much of the Indian Subcontinent.
