From Middle Low German erdbere, from Old Saxon erdberi, form Proto-West Germanic *erþubaʀi, from Proto-Germanic *erþōbazją. Equivalent to Ieed (earth) +‎ Bäa (berry). Compare Saterland Frisian Äidbäie, German Erdbeere.
