Etymology[edit]

From Ottoman Turkish محمدجك (Mehmedcik), equivalent to Mehmet +‎ -çik. Compare Tommy (“British soldier”).

Mehmetçik (definite accusative Mehmetçiki, plural Mehmetçikler)
