Proto-Germanic

Etymology

Of uncertain origin. Perhaps an ablaut variant of *nasō (nose), from Proto-Indo-European *néh₂s (nose); however, this Proto-Indo-European root cannot be the direct ancestor of *nusō as that would leave the *u unexplained. (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)

Noun

*nosu f

  1. nose
