Etymology

Lua error: The template Template:PIE root does not use the parameter(s):
2=sewH
Please see Module:checkparams for help with this warning.

(deprecated template usage)

U-stem derivation from the root *sewH- (to give birth), thus the original meaning being "birth, fruit of the body". Balto-Slavic, Indo-Iranian, Germanic and also Tocharian B reflect the -nu- derivation from the same root: *suHnús.

Noun

*suh₁yús or *suh₃yús m[1]

  1. Alternative form of *suHnús
