Etymology

The root is glǫb-, cf. *glǫbina (depth) (Old Church Slavonic глѫбина (glǫbina), Russian глубина (glubina), Polish głębina). According to Vasmer, it's Proto-Indo-European *glewbʰ- with nasal infix.
