Reconstruction:Proto-Basque/angila
Appearance
Proto-Basque
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Derived from Latin anguīlla (“eel”). Probably borrowed from an Iberian Romance vernacular, since the Latin term should have been borrowed into Proto-Basque as *angiLa, which would have yielded something akin to *aingila. Compare Spanish and Catalan anguila (as opposed to the expected *anguilla).
Noun
[edit]*angila
