Etymology

[edit]

The ending very likely corresponds to the modern suffix -era. The first element is obscure, but has been traditionally linked to Auscī, the Latin name of an Aquitanian tribe. Another hypothesis links it to an unattested verb *enautsi (to say).[1]

Noun

[edit]

*euskala

  1. Basque

Descendants

  • Basque: euskara, euskera
