Etymology

From Proto-Iranian *ǰíHwakah. Equivalent to *ǰīwi (alive, living) +‎ *-ki (hypocoristic suffix). Cognate with Old Persian *Jīvakah and Sanskrit जीवक (jīvaka).[1]
