Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Balto-Slavic *dweigas (o-stem), *dweigis (i-stem), cognate with Lithuanian dveigỹs, from Proto-Indo-European *dwi- (two).

The suffix is also found in Lithuanian treigỹs (three-year-old)
