[edit]From Proto-Balto-Slavic *trasdás, from Proto-Indo-European *trósdos. Balto-Slavic cognates include Lithuanian strãzdas, Latvian strazds, Old Prussian tresde. Indo-European cognates include Latin turdus, Old Irish truit, Old Norse þrǫstr, English thrush.
