Proto-Tungusic[edit]

Etymology[edit]

The possible derivation is *agī- (to walk without a road) +‎ *-lān. The deriving stem could be a borrowing from Mongolic *axui (wide). [1]

Relationship to Proto-Mongolic *axula (mountain) is unclear.
