Proto-Turkic
[edit]Alternative forms
[edit]Postposition
[edit]*ök
- (Common Turkic) emphatic particle.
Usage notes
[edit]- Much like *-mi, it adheres to the vowel harmony of the word that comes before it.
- In certain instances, if the word ends with a vowel, it may drop *O- turning it into a suffix *-k
- While the particle may not directly exist in the daughter languages except Old Turkic, it lives in a suffix form *-ek (“first person plural verbal suffix”) and in fossilized forms such as Turkish ancak (“but, except, however”).[1]
Derived terms
[edit]- (Common Turkic) *-ek (“first person plural verbal suffix”)
