Likely originally a compound with *ëppe (“father-in-law”) as the second member. The first member is not known as an independent word, but may be also reflected in Proto-Samic *vuonēm (“mother-in-law”) (perhaps from *ënɜ + *emä).
- Samoyedic: *ïnəpə
- Tundra Nenets: ӈынаб (ŋinab)
- Finnic: *anoppi (“mother-in-law”)
