Proto-Uralic[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Koivulehto (2006) suggests borrowing from early Proto-Iranian *dzyewH- (later *ǰyawH-), from Proto-Indo-European *ǵyewh₁-, though this has chronological problems: the sound change *e > *a is usually dated as already common Indo-Iranian, and this theory is now usually disregarded.

Verb[edit]

*sewe-

  1. to eat

Descendants[edit]

  • Proto-Samoyedic: *timä (tooth)
  • Ugric:
  • Permic:
  • Proto-Mordvinic:
  • Proto-Finnic: *söödäk (see there for further descendants)
