Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *telk- (to thrust, strike). Cognate with Old East Slavic толочу (toloču, to hit, to push, to step), Russian толо́чь (tolóčʹ), толку́ (tolkú, to push, to step), Latvian nuôtalcît (to beat), Bulgarian тласкам (tlaskam, to push).[1]
