Galatia[edit]

This word might also presumably provide the basis for the words *Galatis, pl. *Galatīs > Greek Γαλάτης (Galátēs), pl. Γᾰλάται, > Γαλατία (Galatía). The Celtic suffix *-(y)atis seems to have been added to nouns or verbal nouns specifically in the sense of "one associated with ...", so presumably the name/word *Galatīs originally meant "those associated with might, ability".
