Redirection from ñaṇṭ-

[edit]

@AleksiB 1945

You mention: Reconstruction:Proto-Dravidian/ñaṇṭ- to Reconstruction:Proto-Dravidian/yaṇṭ-: in R:dra:DL 139 he talks about it likely being *y- due to ñ- being only present in Tamil-Kodava.

At the risk of sounding uninformed, where do you find this info? It is, after all, listed as ñaṇṭ- on the Cambridge Language Survey. Cyrohdn3 (talk) 15:02, 3 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

>Where there is ñ- in Ta. Ma. and Ø- in the other languages, it is possible that ∗ñ- is secondary in Ta. Ma. (<∗y-) (see for examples Krishnamurti 1961: §1.31, p. 17), e.g. Ta. ˜nan.. tu : Te. en. dri. ‘crab’ (also Ø in Ka. Go. and all Central Dravidian languages). He only lists it as a possibility. Plus, he doesn't even reconstruct the term with *y. Illustrious Lock (talk) 16:54, 3 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
