Possible connection to *h₁n̥gʷnís?[edit]

Parting from the assumption that the initial *ba- comes from PIE *bʰeh₂- one must assume that the following *-ukną must come from a different root. The stem *ukn- would be expected as a result of *h₁n̥gʷn- with the same type of dissimilation as the other branches (avoiding Kluge’s law by shifting stress to the initial root). This would make a lot of sense since that would make the original meaning something like “fire call”. Dah-wid-os (talk) 06:52, 29 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

This is also assuming that the *bʰeh₂- root this word descends from is the one meaning ‘speak, say’ and not ‘shine, light’. Dah-wid-os (talk) 07:00, 29 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
