Why do we say that the Middle High German form is from Old Saxon, while the Middle Low German is possibly from or influenced by Old High German? That seems contradictory. And what reason is there to assume any borrowing between OHG and Old Saxon? Because of the missing attestations in OHG and Gothic? But if that should mean the compound didn't exist in these branches, then why do we reconstruct it as PG at all? Kolmiel (talk) 13:43, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
