@Tropylium In Northern Sami, the only descendant I can actually find, this has a regular short šš ~ š alternation. Is the reconstruction wrong? —Rua (mew) 11:23, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

Aikio (2006) has the following comments on this:

"Pite Saami ruos'sjie does not have cognates elsewhere in Saami. There is a similar word in Sammallahti’s North Saami dictionary (1989), SaaN ruoš'ši ‘common reed’, but this item is not a true cognate because it is a neologism that has been constructed by Samuli Aikio on the basis of the Pite Saami word."

I do not know where you have gotten the NS word with a plain long grade from; per this quote it should indeed have the overlong grade. --Tropylium (talk) 18:14, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

http://giellatekno.uit.no/cgi/p-sme.eng.html and http://533.davvi.no/ordbok_samnor.php and both have the plain long grade, and don't list an overlong inflection. —Rua (mew) 18:25, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
