@Mårtensås Hi, I'm interested to know how Kümmel sees this link with PIE *ḱérd: a borrowing from Indo-Iranian? Exarchus (talk) 10:29, 9 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Pretty sure it's supposed to be Indo-Uralic. ᛙᛆᚱᛐᛁᚿᛌᛆᛌProto-NorsingAsk me anything 12:13, 9 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Mårtensås As I now see in Holopainen's 'Criticism of some Indo-Uralic sound correspondences' (page 297), that is indeed the case. But as Holopainen says: "There are no other examples of the alleged correspondence *ḱ ~ *ć among the tentative IU cognates." Exarchus (talk) 14:18, 9 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
You could append to the present etymology the words "though this has been disputed", followed by a reference from that work. ᛙᛆᚱᛐᛁᚿᛌᛆᛌProto-NorsingAsk me anything 14:21, 9 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
