From the reconstruction:

Unknown. Perhaps ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *ster- (“stiff, rigid”). If so, then related to Proto-West Germanic *strunk (“stump”).


If indeed related to Proto-West Germanic *strunk

it should be noted the action is to shit “to split, divide, separate", where *strunk is the result.
