Etymology

From strid +‎ mo. Literally, “fight moor”. According to Magnus Brostrup Landstad, the places with name like it were used by local farmers for tournaments.

The only exception given by Landstad is Stridsmo located nearby the Borsæ lake, not far from the highway. The place is known for a great amount of menhirs. According to the local legend, eastern Telemark was a part of Setesdal, but the farmers did a revolt against Setesdal. One of the battles took place at the Borsæ moors and gave the name to this place.
