Etymology of ciaca

[edit]

Hi @Fenakhay! On this entry we seem to have a pretty thorough etymology of the Sicilian etymon of the Maltese word. Now that the Sicilian entry exists, I would have ported it over, but I'm not convinced; where did you get it from? The *cl- > ci- here isn't possible: what the Sicilian word has is [ç ~ ʃ] (fricative) and is found in Western Sicily (Palermo), which is not comparable to the [tʃ] < /kj/ (affricate in all positions) of Eastern Sicily. For now I placed two very random etymologies I found on my century-old dictionaries. Catonif (talk) 20:01, 12 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Oh, I see now that an IP wrote that, not you. Catonif (talk) 20:03, 12 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
