Definition 5

One of the listed definitions is "(meeting, gathering) to go off, to be held". Is there something wrong here? In American English the following phrases do not make any sense. "to go off"?

- The meeting went off. *No

- The gathering went off. *No

- The gathering went off (well)? *No

However, this is ok:

- The meeting is/was held.
