Stress

[edit]

It seems to me that this is usually pronounced хира́гана. —Stephen 12:08, 27 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

You must be right, since the official pronunciation seems to be хира́гана. So is ката́кана. I checked in gramota.ru and the Russian Wikipedia. Although, this pronunciation seems unnatural to me and I always heard it хирага́на and катака́на, I also some websites mentioning the stress on the 2nd syllable. Like some Japanese city names, they may also be indeclinable. However, this rule is not strictly followed if it is a rule. So people say еду "в Осака" and "еду в Осаку". BTW, in the Russian Wikipedia: "В основе хираганы лежит базовый набор символов...". It's declined throughout the article. Anatoli 12:26, 27 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
