[edit]@ImprovetheArabicUnicode – I'm as surprised as you are, but the dictionaries have described it as "سَحَری" not "سَحْری" – see the UDB dictionary's audio example [1], even though most Urdu speakers would definitely pronounce it as "sehri". I wanted to check Rekhta, but it seems to be having issues at the minute. Anyways, to reflect on this, I did add IPA for the "common" pronunciation. - Also, Rekhta has written it as سَحَری [2] as well (though the Audio reflects the common pronunciation), so I'm assuming that is the standardised spelling, through Rekhta and UDB do seem to use a lot of the same references. نعم البدل (talk) 04:40, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
- Yes I agree, if you see the Hindi spelling too, it is spelled as "sehri" and I think sahari is probably an Arabic spelling, maybe misinterpreted. As I see the UDB, it is unusual to see someone pronounce "sehri" as "sahari". I think there may have been an error somewhere ImprovetheArabicUnicode (talk) 21:03, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
- On the contrary, I think سَحَری is just the standard spelling. UDB and Rekhta usually reference, or build on dictionaries that were published before them (see Rekhta Citations) so it could be that that's how it used to be pronounced, like sehar + i, but the pronunciation has evolved now to seh.ri. نعم البدل (talk) 21:54, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
