Etymology & Descendants[edit]

@AryamanA, I think the word पंचायत is derived from Sanskrit पंच (paṃca, five) +‎ आयत्त (āyatta, subject to). However, in an edit summary in panchayat, I saw that you refuted the connection with आयत्त in the etymology. If that indeed be not related, there must, however, be a second element in the etymology of the word... So what do you think this second element is then?

Also another thing I would like to know from you. It seems to me that the term for "panchayat" in all other South Asian languages is a borrowing from the Hindi. What do you think? —Lbdñk (talk) 17:32, 19 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
