Pronunciation

I've always heard it pronounced "Totsagan." Can you check the romanization once more? 24.29.238.60 02:20, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Please keep in mind that pronunciation and Romanization are not the same thing. A Romanization is an attempt to describe the sequence of written letters, not to describe the sound of the word. --EncycloPetey 02:32, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Some do pronounce it "totsagan", but I think the standard pronunciation is "tót-gan" (in phonemic Thai, ทด-กัน). —Stephen 05:39, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I'm aware of that, just as final "L" becomes "N," final "S" becomes "T," etc., as in สวัสดีครับ, where the S in the middle becomes T. However, I've never heard this word not pronounced "Totsagan." I think a Google search will bear this out. 24.29.238.60 18:11, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Searching on Google, I see a number of different transliterations being used, including totsagan, thotsagan, totsakan, and thotsakan, and most of them seem to be one of those, but there is http://www.thai-language.com/id/205960 that shows it as "thót kan". I’ve seen it as tót-gan/thót-kan or something like that in other places, but so far I haven’t been able to find them by searching on the Internet. —Stephen 08:44, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
