@AG202, the diphthong is not pronounced by anyone in Jeju born after 1960 (and that's likely being optimistic); the fact that the language in its traditional form is moribund and almost certainly doomed is also well-established (if you weren't aware, I wrote the Wikipedia article on the language, and Jeju language#Current status and Jeju language#Vowels discuss this). The fact that the diphthong is no longer used in Jeju Island by the vast majority of the population, and by a large proportion of even native speakers, is clearly relevant to this page.--Tibidibi (talk) 09:14, 26 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Tibidibi: The edits were made because of the "unwritten (and now virtually extinct) speech of Jeju" part, not because the diphthong isn't used anymore, which I am aware of (and also aware that you were the one that wrote the Wikipedia article, thank you). I felt that the mention of Jeju's language status wasn't that relevant to the article, as the page is about the diphthong and not the language itself. If it had said "however, the diphthong is no longer present in the Jeju language," that would've been more than fine, and additionally, the way article is currently is fine now. Thank you!
