I don't know the etymology of this word, but in Iliad Β 248 it behaves as if it started with a consonant cluster:

Φαι¯στό¯ν | τε¯ Ῥύ˘τι˘|ό¯ν τε˘, πό˘|λει¯ς εὖ¯ | ναι¯ε˘το˘|ώ¯σα¯ς,
