Hong Kong

[edit]

@The dog2 AFAIK it's not a valid winning hand in Hong Kong? Is this only Singapore? RcAlex36 (talk) 03:10, 19 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

@RcAlex36: In Singapore, it depends on which group you're playing with. My hunch is that Hokkien people are more likely to accept it as a winning hand than Cantonese people. But in any case, I came across this term in Hong Kong movies, one that I can recall being the 雀聖 series. Based on what I recall, it is a winning hand when they play 臺灣牌 but not when they play 廣東牌. However, the 臺灣牌 you see in Hong Kong mahjong movies is not actual Taiwanese mahjong because it only has 14 tiles in a hand, while actual Taiwanese mahjong has 17 tiles in a hand.
