Talk:土木

土木 (どぼく or doboku) appears to mean the same thing in Japanese as it does in Mandarin; this page translates it as "engineering work". However, I can't seem to find this exact phrase in either of my Japanese-English dictionaries.
Google Translate suggests "Civil Engineering", and the Collins English-Japanese dictionary (→ISBN) does have an entry for "Civil Engineer", which it gives as 土木技師 (どぼくぎし or dobokugishi).
Based on this, I'm thinking that "Civil Engineering" is probably a better translation than "building" - but I'd appreciate a second opinion, given than I'm not a native speaker of Japanese. GoBusto 21:50, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
