This character occurs in the first chapter of 莊子

The sentence is 日月出矣而爝火不息,其於光也,不亦難乎 "When the sun or the moon has risen, yet your torch is still alight, and there is an excess of light, is that not a waste?"

I would therefore translate 爝 to mean "torch". --Gak 22:58, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

I've removed WT:RFV#爝 as you're not challenging the validity of the definition, which is what we call "verification". Instead I'll tag the page so that Chinese editors can find it. Mglovesfun (talk) 11:52, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
I have created a Mandarin section for your character. I played around with your translation a bit, just for fun. I was trying to get it a little closer to the original. In the second part of the sentence, 於 is a verb meaning "to compare." Therefore, the most accurate (somewhat awkward) translation would be, "Would it not be difficult to compare its light [with the light of the sun and moon]?" i.e. the light of the torch would pale in comparison, hence my translation. Let me know what you think. -- A-cai 22:38, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
